THE VALUE OF ADVISING
Advising is the cornerstone of a successful University experience.
The Academic Advising Center (AAC) The Academic Advising Center is responsible for advising new freshmen, undecided sophomores, and pre-social Work majors. Additionally, it serves as a general advising resource for all other students and faculty.
All freshmen (0-25 credits), regardless of their major, are assigned to the *Academic Advising Center (AAC)* for advising, registration, and first year assistance. Freshmen are encouraged to meet with a Faculty Mentor (see link on navigation bar to the left) for questions specific to their major.
Sophomores (26 - 57 credits) who have a declared major, will be assigned a departmental faculty advisor.
Sophomores undecided as to their major will be assigned to the AAC for major exploration activities in addition to advising and registration assistance.
Juniors (58-89 credits) and Seniors (90 credits and up) must have a declared major and will be advised by their departmental faculty advisor.
College of Technology students will be assisted and advised by the counselors in the Student Services department and will also be assigned a faculty advisor.
Faculty Mentors in the major department are experts in their field. Students should seek to develop this relationship as soon as they decide their degree path so they can be assured of receiving the most current information from the department. They will benefit by developing a positive professional relationship with a professor who can write recommendation letters for research or internship opportunities or serve as a scholarship reference. Faculty advisors can also help with career questions and graduate school applications.
